Important information before your appointment

Our Diagnostic Imaging Staff

Our Diagnostic Imaging staff can be recognised by their name badge and uniform. If you have any questions about your examination or procedure please ask your Radiologist, Radiographer or Sonographer when you come for your appointment.

Prior to attending an appointment

Patients may be asked to follow specific preparation instructions prior to the scan, such as fasting, or taking certain medicines to enhance the quality of the images and aide in accurate diagnosis.

Patients are asked to take preparation instructions very seriously. Please contact us if you have any queries.

Giving your permission (consent)

Before your examination you will be asked your details and explained the procedure.

If you are having a more specialised examination such as Computed Tomography (CT) / Fluoroscopy / Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) etc. more questions may be asked in order to fill in a safety questionnaire. They will also ask you if you consent to having the examination. This is called verbal consent.

If you do not wish to have the examination or are undecided, please tell the Radiographer. Please remember that you can ask the Radiologist, Radiographer or Sonographer any questions you have at any time before, during or after your scan.

Chaperones

If you wish to have a chaperone present during your scan, please alert a health care professional before the scan begins.

Students

Please be aware we are a clinical training site for Student Radiographers for University of Suffolk at Peterborough and University of Hertfordshire at Hinchingbrooke.

Your examination may be taken by a student, but this is under the supervision of a qualified Radiographer. If you do not wish to be seen by a student, please inform the Radiographer before your X-ray. Please note that this will not prejudice your examination or treatment in any way.

Supervision of children

We are sorry but our Diagnostic Imaging Departments are not able to care for children accompanying patients for imaging examinations. If you need to bring children with you to your appointment, please ensure you have someone with you to look after them.
