Our Monthly Star Awards

We would like to say a huge well done to Bethany Croker, who is the winner of August's Individual of the Month Star Award. Bethany is a Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist who has been nominated following the exceptional care she provided a patient with complex learning disabilities.

 

When a patient with complex learning disabilities was struggling in the hospital environment, and a home visit was recommended, Bethany promptly arranged a home visit. Despite working part-time she coordinated with the learning disability lead, care providers, therapy colleagues, the ward and hospital transport, to ensure the visit could proceed smoothly. Bethany handled the complex situation with confidence and empathy, ensuring all necessary assessments were conducted in the patient's home environment, recognising that the hospital setting was unsuitable. She completed the visit, provided recommendations, and facilitated a safe discharge for the patient. Bethany's invaluable support was acknowledged both by the ward and the Cambridge learning disability team. The written feedback given said:

 

''Bethany Croker (OT) approach, care and compassion was warming to see and experience. She clearly had understood the patients way and the need for a specific approach, this reduced the anxieties of the patient and enabled her to engage with the therapy team''

 

Also, after completing this home visit, on her way back to the hospital, Bethany also willingly made a detour for our equipment team to pick up a much needed piece of equipment no longer needed by a patient (a knee scooter), enabling it to be returned to circulation and made available for others, once cleaned and serviced. 

 

Bethany, showed fantastic compassion and flexibility in order to provide the best possible experience for this patient. You are truly deserving of being our August Individual of the Month, Star Award winner. Well done!
