The Recruitment Department at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust has won the NHS Pastoral Care Quality Award for the dedicated support they provide to internationally-educated nurses and midwives as they start their NHS careers.
The Trust can now proudly display the Pastoral Care Quality Award mark and will be reassessed on the quality of its international recruitment services every two years.
Louise Tibbert, Chief People Officer for North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, which runs Peterborough City, Hinchingbrooke and Stamford & Rutland Hospitals, said: “The recruitment team has worked hard to reach this important standard, which not only ensures the recruitment process is navigated smoothly for internationally-educated nurses and midwives, but provides access to appropriate and tailored wellbeing support as they start their induction with us.
“This is a voluntary scheme, but one we feel is an important priority for our Trust.”
Case study- Bright Gbagbo
Bright is a Staff Nurse on ward B14 at Peterborough City Hospital and joined our Trust in January 2023 after relocating from Ghana where he worked as a Public Health Nurse in Child Welfare Services.
He brings a wide range of skills and experience to our organisation having gained a Masters’ degree in Epidemiology, and working in diabetic clinics, maternity wards and the emergency department of a busy teaching hospital in Ghana.
He says the Trust’s support was invaluable in helping him settle in to life in Peterborough.
He added: “The recruitment team provided a lot of support and reading materials during my initial days in Peterborough. The team also provided groceries which gave me a lot of time to rest before exploring the City. Blending into the ward routine was gradual, but I had a lot of support from my colleagues and many of them took time off their busy schedules to teach me.
“The best thing with working for our Trust is that all the equipment and items required for me to work is always readily available. The main stressor in my previous job was improvising due to lack of work equipment. Services are integrated and digitised and there is good teamwork.
“I count myself lucky working here. Peterborough is a very lovely city with a wide range of culture and very polite people.”
