Putting the cha cha into Charity – a night of sparkles, sequins and dancing steps has helped to raise £32,021 for Peterborough’s Cancer Wellbeing Service.
It was strictly about the glitz, glamour and generosity of more than 250 guests at the North West Anglia Hospitals’ Charity Glitter Ball – where VIP guests, cuddly mascots and a fantastic fusion of local musical entertainment were all part of fab-u-lous fundraising evening.

Strictly Come Dancing Judge and Hospitals’ Charity Patron, Craig Revel Horwood, was guest of honour at the Glitter Ball, leading an after-dinner fun Charleston-athon where guests were invited onto stage for a dance off!
Proceeds from this year’s event will be donated to North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust’s Cancer Wellbeing Service – based at Peterborough City Hospital – but which offers free support services for anyone affected by cancer.
Cancer impacts lives in many different ways and at different times, including physical, emotional, practical, social and financial effects – and the service can offer support to patients (and their families) who are:
A huge supporter of the Hospitals’ Charity, Craig said: “Since I became Hospitals’ Charity patron a few years ago, I have had the privilege of meeting so many a-maz-ing hospital staff in a wide variety of roles, and seeing first-hand the wonderful work they do.
“During a visit last autumn, I had the opportunity to tour the Cancer Wellbeing Service and chat to some of the fantastic staff and volunteers - as well as patients and their families – and was truly inspired by their work.”
“I am delighted to be patron, and the success of the ball and the massive amount raised through incredibly generous support is huge testament to how much the NHS is valued both locally and regionally.”
Once again, the event at the Holiday Inn, Peterborough was supported by numerous local businesses – who dug deep and gave generously – and was sponsored by Progress Health and Prospect Healthcare.
Master of ceremonies for the evening, Andrew Holt, ensured the auction and the raffle were delivered without a hitch, and even delivered his own musical entertainment.
There was also live music from Peterborough’s favourite soul songstress Nicole Lawrence and local feelgood band Motor City Vipers – as well as some impressive Dohl Drumming from Eminence Entertainments.
Philip Fearn, Charity Project Manager for North West Anglia Hospitals’ Charity, and one of the event organisers, said: “It was an incredible night, and huge thanks to every single person who played a role in making it the wonderful occasion it was. The ball seems to have become a popular date in the local business community calendar.
“The staggering amount raised will be added to the Hospitals’ Charity funds and will make such a difference to dozens if not hundreds of patients, visitors and staff.”
