Daredevil hospital team take to the skies to boost Trust charity funds

A group of fearless staff from across Peterborough and Hinchingbrooke Hospitals jumped out of a plane above Cambridgeshire on Sunday to raise money for the North West Anglia Hospitals Charity.

The 16-strong group – almost all first-time parachute jumpers – took to the skies above Sibson airfield having been encouraged by sponsor donations which have hit £3,700.

Organiser Katie Longley, Estates and Facilities Administrator, said: “It was fantastic to see how excited everyone was following the jump. It was a bucket list dream completed for many colleagues and a few of us loved it so much we would happily do it again!”

The team consisted of clinical and administration colleagues from across the Surgical Assessment Unit, Cardiac Ward, Finance team and Estates and Facilities team.

What started as a throwaway comment in the office quickly gathered interest and we shared the idea across our internal channels. It was great to see the idea come to life and bring together staff from different departments who would not normally have crossed paths. There have been some new friendships made along side the money raised.”

North West Anglia Hospitals Charity provides items that improve the experience of patients, visitors, volunteers and staff in our hospitals. Charity Project Manager Philip Fearn said: “It has been absolutely fantastic to witness this group of staff get together and face such a challenge on behalf of the charity. We were at the airfield for the jump on Sunday and it was great to see their smiling faces as they landed – all without injury, which was a great relief! On behalf of our charity, I would like to thank all our jumpers for being such great sports.”female leaves plane on tandem jump
