Celebrating our first clinical engineering T-Level Student placement

Today, (21 October 2025)  marks Global Clinical Engineering Day, and we are celebrating the incredible contribution of our Clinical Engineering Team, whose expertise keeps medical technology safe, effective and ready to support patient care every day.

Clinical Engineers are the technical problem-solvers behind the scenes of healthcare. They maintain and test thousands of medical devices across our hospitals, from monitors and infusion pumps to surgical and imaging systems, ensuring every device performs safely when patients need it most.

This year’s Global Clinical Engineering Day highlights learning and collaboration, a perfect opportunity to highlight the team's first Clinical Engineering T-Level Student Placement. Over the past eight weeks, Abigail Crowson has become a valued part of our Clinical Engineering Team, gaining hands-on experience across a wide range of activities and seeing first-hand how clinical engineering underpins safe and effective patient care in our hospitals. Abigail has worked alongside our engineers on medical device maintenance, testing and quality assurance, as well as learning about the wider governance, digital and safety systems that support the service.

Head of Medical Technology at the Trust, John Boulter, has been delighted to welcome Abigail into the team:

"It has been fantastic to see Abigail's curiosity and confidence grow throughout the placement. She returns to University with a deeper understanding of how engineering contributes to healthcare and with an even stronger ambition to pursue a career in Clinical Engineering, ideally right here with our Trust team in the future.

" This placement marks an important step in how we can inspire and develop the next generation of healthcare engineers, and we look forward to welcoming more students in the years ahead."

We are proud of our Clinical Engineering team for their vital contribution to patient safety, innovation and the continuous improvement of care across Team North West Anglia.
