Budding bakers to boost charity coffers at hospital cake sale

Colleagues from Stamford & Rutland Hospital’s Outpatients department are raising funds for – and awareness of – prostate cancer by baking and selling cakes!

Deputy Sister Nichola Wells, whose father Nick was diagnosed and successfully treated for the disease last year, is hoping that whilst supporting Prostate Cancer UK, the event on July 4 will also celebrate the great work happening at the Trust.

Led by Macmillan Consultant Urological Surgeon, Miss Jyoti Shah MBE, Stamford & Rutland Hospital runs a weekly fast track prostate clinic – where if required, MRI scans can be arranged, and biopsies taken on the same day.

Nichola, who completed a challenge of walking 11,000 steps a day for the charity last September, said: “This is a cause very close to my heart and we have decided to hold the Cake Sale on a Thursday – the same day as the clinic.

“We at Stamford Outpatients are working alongside a fabulous team providing a Prostate Fast Track Service, giving the men in our lives the opportunity to be seen, have appropriate tests if required in a one stop appointment.”

Cakes will be on sale for much of the day (or until they are all sold), but anyone wishing to donate to the cause who is able to make the event can do so here.

The team would like to hear from anyone who would be happy to fake it or bake it and donate a cake or cakes to their sale which will be held in the hospital’s main reception from around 8.30am.
