Maneesha Joseph, Matron for Gastroenterology and Endocrinology at Peterborough City Hospital, has been recognised in British Malayali Awards where she won the Best Nurse Award. 

The annual awards celebrate nurses who go above and beyond in their profession and communities. Maneesha was shortlisted alongside four other finalists before being named the overall winner. 

Alongside her NHS leadership role, Maneesha is actively involved in a number of charity and community organisations, including the British Malayali Charity Foundation, Jeevan Trust UK, where she serves as Vice Chair, Puhar, a stem cell donation campaign, and Mothers Charity. 

Maneesha is widely recognised as a constant source of support within both the NHS and the wider Malayali community. Colleagues and community members have praised her willingness to help others.

Kevin Boyle, Divisional Nurse Director, said: “Younger members of the Malayali community often describe her presence as reassuring during difficult situations. 

“Her ability to build strong relationships while working across professional and public settings has strengthened her standing as a respected leader. For many who know her story, Maneesha represents far more than professional achievement. She is an example of determination and resilience and a role model within and outside her community.” 

Maneesha commented: “I felt deeply honoured simply to have been nominated by the wider community. Being named the winner has made me feel even more humbled and has strengthened my sense of responsibility.

 “I have always believed that nursing is a calling, and I find great fulfilment, happiness and purpose in supporting others. I am truly grateful for every opportunity and for all the support I have received from the Trust. I strive to be a positive role model, particularly for colleagues from overseas, encouraging and empowering them to believe in themselves, reach their full potential and always do their best..”
