We treat patients, of all ages, who have the following conditions:  

  • Cornea and Uveitis disease

  • Diabetic retinopathy

  • Eyelid malposition

  • Macular degeneration including surgery for macular hole

  • Retinal detachment and macular hole

  • Retinal conditions 

  • Squint 

  • Surgical retina e.g. retinal detachment, macular holes 

  • Thyroid eye disease 

  • Tumours 

  • Watery eyes

  • Eye movement disorders and squints

  • Botulinum toxin

Peterborough City Hopsital

Location: Head & Neck Unit, Core A. 

Our eye specialists 
Our specialist eye consultants are highly skilled and experienced. Our glaucoma specialists hold fellowships from the Moorfields Eye Hospital including a research fellowship on advances in glaucoma surgery.

GP referral 
Your GP or optician will refer you to us to have your eyes examined. After your referral to the eye department, you will receive a letter detailing what you need to do next.

Patient support available for dealing with the practical, emotional and social aspects of sight loss.

Out of hours: Between 6pm and 8.30am
If you need to attend our emergency department with an eye problem, you will be seen and treated by an emergency doctor. If the problem requires an ophthalmologist and cannot wait, we will liaise with colleagues at neighbouring hospitals to ensure you are treated as quickly as possible.

Hinchingbrooke Hospital

Location: The Eye Unit is on the 1st floor in the Treatment Centre.

Most eye surgery is done as day case without requiring an overnight hospital stay. All eye conditions are treated in the unit as well as general eye clinics, emergency eye clinics and clinics for cataract and cataract-related disorders.  

Our consultants run eye clinics in Doddington County Hospital and The Princess of Wales Hospital, Ely.

Many of our eye consultants work in Addenbrooke’s Hospital and in the Moorfields Eye Unit at Bedford Hospital. 

Opening hours:

  • Clinic (by appointment only) - 9am - 5pm
  • Emergency clinic - 9am - 3pm *
  • Procedure unit - 7.30am - 7.30pm

*   Please note that this is not a walk-in clinic. Patients are booked into this clinic by referral only. 

Community and hospital care 

Our team in the eye unit work closely with specially trained community optometrists and orthoptists so that patients can be cared for outside of the hospital and closer to home wherever possible.

Support to patients newly diagnosed with sight loss

Eye Clinic Liaison Officer, Vicky French can talk to patients and / or their relatives to try and provide emotional and practical support.

Vicky works alongside Huntingdonshire Society for the Blind and the Sensory Services Team at Cambridgeshire County Council, to provide a joined up approach.

 

Stamford and Rutland Hospital

We run an outpatient service at Stamford Hospital.
