Volunteers' Week 2024

Join us as we celebrate 40 years of Volunteers’ Week and look to inspire more people to make a difference. During the week, we will be introducing you to some of the amazing volunteers from the 500 strong team!

On Tuesday we held a delightful lunch complete with games and a disco, funded by North West Anglia Hospitals' Charity!  In the afternoon, we awarded certificates and badges to our dedicated long-serving volunteers.

Thank you to all of our incredible volunteers for your incredible contributions!  #VolunteersWeek

"I find volunteering enjoyable as it provides a way for me to help others in a healthcare-based setting, which is something I hope to pursue for my career. It also allows me to constantly develop my skills whilst helping others, for example being trained in feeding patients which I find really exciting and I feel that I am really making a difference on the wards. I think I have also gained confidence and communication skills which help me in all aspects of life, thanks to the variety of roles and unique situations volunteering has put me in. Overall, volunteering provides a source for me to be able to help others from patients, visitors and staff whilst  improving my own skillset."

Kat Penar, Youth Volunteer Coordinator, said: "Dylan has been an integral part of our Youth Volunteering Team since January 2023. He has consistently demonstrated excellence in various roles.

"His journey began as a wayfinder, where he provided invaluable support in the Main Atrium. Recognising his potential, he later transitioned into the role of a wayfinding mentor, where he guided and supported new young volunteers, presenting exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills. Dylan's commitment extended further as he dedicated his time as a ward support volunteer and a mealtime companion, positively impacting the experiences of both patients and volunteers.

"Currently, he is a ward mentor for our new young volunteers, continually demonstrating a passion for nurturing and developing the next cohorts of volunteers. In addition to his direct volunteer roles, Dylan has played an important part in our Recruitment and Induction Training Days. Dylan’s dedication and contributions have truly been remarkable, and we are incredibly grateful for his commitment as a young volunteer. We are very proud of you Dylan!"
