New interpreter appointed at Peterborough City Hospital

A new interpreter has been appointed to improve patient experience at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust.

Based at Peterborough City Hospital, interpreter Andrea Goodman brings nearly 13 years of experience to her role previously working for the Home Office and within a variety of NHS settings as a freelance interpreter and will assist communication for patients needing Portuguese translation.

She said: “I have experienced difficult situations previously within my experience as an interpreter which has given me an understanding of not only how emotional situations can be, but also how important it is to achieve the right balance between acting positively and respectfully, while remaining neutral and compassionate”.

Alex Papp, Linguistic and Translation Service Co-Ordinator at Peterborough City Hospital said: “Andrea comes with a vast amount of experience as a qualified Portuguese interpreter, and we believe she will be a brilliant addition to our diverse in-house interpreting team.”

The Trust’s Interpreting and Translation Services are part of a diverse and vital service for our patients for whom English may not be their first language, its in-person interpreting team provides a crucial role in ensuring clear communication between patients and clinical professionals.
