Hospital staff from Peterborough, Huntingdon and Stamford enjoyed a fabulous evening of carol singing and readings at one of the region’s most iconic landmarks.
Peterborough Cathedral was the stunning venue for the inaugural event, organised by the North West Anglia Hospitals’ Charity – attracting some 700 colleagues, their friends and family members.
In keeping with the history and tradition of the Cathedral, the service was Christian in character, but members of all faiths and none were warmly welcomed.
North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust’s Chaplains and Cathedral staff led the service, with Trust staff delivering the readings of the Christmas Story.
The community-based Collaboration Choir joined the Cathedral Choir to help provide a musical evening and experience to remember – which was also enjoyed by the Hospitals’ Charity mascots!
The event was attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Peterborough, Cllrs Nick Sandford and Bella Saltmarsh along with the Mayor and Mayoress of Huntingdon Cllrs Phil and Debbie Pearce.
And after the singing left eventgoers in need of something to soothe the vocal chords, tea, coffee and mince pies were served by the Trust’s Executive team!
The Hospitals’ Charity has focussed its fundraising efforts this festive season on its Christmas Giving Tree Appeal with many Cathedral service guests supporting the cause by bringing along a gift for disadvantaged children in the communities around their hospitals.
Charity Project Manager, Philip Fearn, said: “It was a truly wonderful evening and fantastic to see so many Trust colleagues attending along with their friends and family members.
“My enormous thanks to everyone who helped to make this such a memorable evening, and of course, the team at Peterborough Cathedral who provided this service as a gift to us, in recognition of all the dedicated hard work of our incredible colleagues all year round.”
